You think you know us, but you don't. You look at us and see some newbies, some know-nothings that just found their way out of the Thorns, and you don't look any farther than that. You don't care about us, you don't respect us; to you, we're less than nothing. You think the worst of us, because we look different, or because we're the new kids. Maybe we're not the kinds of people you'd hang with, and maybe, just maybe, we frighten you a bit. But I'm telling you, treating us the way you did was so not the right thing to do. It wouldn't have been difficult to show us some kindness. But now you've pushed us away. We're not your enemies. But I doubt you'd believe that. Whatever. We've got each other now, so fuck you, asshole...

We're in this together, for better or for worse. We didn't ask to be what we are, but its time we made the best of it. So, I raise my glass and lick my blade, and may my future mates hear what I am about to say: May nobody come between us, let no circumstance divide us from each other, and I swear to you this day that anyone who starts shit with us will pay. And if I'm lying, my fellow Knights will know and make me wish I was in a Tiajuana Donkey show. Gutter Knights I swear I've got your back through fire, earth, water and air.

On September 6, 2008, several new Changelings found their way out of the Hedge, somehow. They didn't know each other, and they didn't come out together. When they were each found by other Lost and taken to meet the Freehold, many of the other Lost treated them with scorn and suspicion. Although a few kinder souls treated them better later, the damage was done and some of these new Changelings felt like outcasts among the outcast. Four of them banded together, refused help from some of the nicer Lost, and found a place to stay where they'd be safe for the night. Thus was born the Gutter Knights, a rag-tag group of broken souls who intend to rely on themselves and each other against whatever may come, feeling like not one but two worlds are out to get them. 'Us against them' seems to be their motto, and as suspicion and mistrust were levied against them upon their escape, so they now levy the same against others.
