• 1842 - Gold is discovered in the hills and mountains near Los Angeles. A gold rush brings a huge influx of white settlers.
• 1842 - - A powerful Tyrsus mage referred to by the native Tongva tribes as Qsi, challenges the settlers. Jaad and Qsi clash, but Jaad is ultimately victorious. Qsi flees, promising to return again.
• 1846 - The Mexican American war starts with early American victories in Monterey and San Francisco
• 1847 - Los Angeles falls to John Freemont's troops after remarkable resistance.
• 1847 - - Jaad discovers that the Mexican soliders had been enhanced by Qsi's life rotes. Jaad recognizes these rotes as similar to those practiced by the Seers of the Throne
